This table gives an account of information relating to the changes of durable goods owned by British households .it provides figures between 1972 and 1983 and trend clearly reflects that all the electronic goods owned by British household increased during this period.
With reference to this chart, it can be seen that one of the most significant trends was rise in telephone ownership. At the beginning of the period, telephone ownership accounted 42%, and this figure had risen to 77% in 1983. Simultaneously, other durable goods such as central heating, refrigerator and washing machine also increased; however, recorded less growth when comparison is made with previous one- the central heating ownership rising from 39% of households in 1972 to 64% in 1983, households with a refrigerator from 73% to 94% and of those with a washing machine from 66% to 80%. However, the least growth experienced were vacuum cleaners, television and dish washers ownership,each accounting an increment of 8%, 5% and 2% respectively.
In conclusion, during the twelve years of the period there have been dramatic changes in the ownership of durable goods in Great Britain. However, a maximum growth is seen for telephone and central heating ownership.
